About the house
The villa was built in 1995 and bought by Stefan and Geinner in 2013 to renovate it and transform the surrounding land into a garden landscape.
The 153 m² villa is sourrounded by a property of about 5000 m².
How to get there
Take your rental car and drive to Puntagorda. At the Repsol gas station enter the village below the main street, at the clock fountain go right until you arrive at the butcher “Carnicería” on the left. Turn left into “Calle La Paz”, at the bus station follow right until the Biotienda “La Calabaza”. Head downhill to the left into “Camino Matos”, go 1 km downhill, and follow further downhill “Camino Pinto”. You will see a white letterbox on a blue post with number “16”. Enter here (on Google Maps called “Camino La Capilla”) Follow this access way until you see the sign “ALPALMA” (do not enter the private fincas below or above the access road)
Living Room
The TV set has to different remote controls. The silver one is for controlling the Android TV set, the black one must be pointed to the right corner of the room in order to select satellite channels (German Astra, use HDMI 1 SATELLITE input) . The lamps next to the TV use the Ambilight of the TV to enhance your viewing pleasure when turned on. Please log out of your Android account before checking out.
Air conditioning and heat pump
Please leave the air conditioning during summer in 25 or 26 °C in “Snow Flake (cooling)” mode. In winter leave it in 21 or 22 °C in “Sun (heating)” mode. Do not change that. The air conditioning starts and stops automatically. You can manually start or stop its funcion with the smart controls in the corridor. This is the preferred method. We do not recommend to use the remote controls for permanently disabling the air conditioning, but it is possible when they are functioning to permanently switch one or both off with the remotes.
Smart Controls
In the corridor you find 4 switches marked with coloured glass pebbles:
- Clear: The Aiŕ Condition works fully automatic and starts and stops when needed. If you want to overwrite this behavior and manually start or stop the air conditioning, press the button with the clear glass pearl
- Blue: The pool circulation for the solar heated water starts and stops automatically. If you want to overwrite this behavior and start or stop the pool circulation, push the blue button
- Orange button: The garden river and water plays start and stop automatically. If you want to manually start or stop them, press the orange button
- Red button: The arabic Granada spring plays twice daily automatically. If you want to stop it or start the fountain at different times, press the red button
Kitchen
Use the provided Lidl dishwasher tabs for the dishwasher. The dishwasher uses hot solar water.
Gas stove: Use the lighter in the drawer to light the flame. ATTENTION: ALWAYS CLOSE THE GAS VALVES AFTER COOKING (in 12 o’clock position). DANGER! GAS CAN EXPLODE IF THE VALVES ARE NOT CLOSED!
The tap water is cold and hot. The hot water is solar heated and can reach 85 °C in summer. DANGER! YOU CAN BURN YOURSELF WITH THE HOT WATER.
If you want to use fresh spring water (without chlorine) for coffee, tea or cooking, use the tap outside of the house at the main panorama terrace. It is provided by the famous Minaderos spring (galería) in Garafía.
There are lots of kitchen utensils at your disposal.
Please leave the kitchen cleaned up on check out. Thank you.
Use the trash bags when you need to change the trash. You can bring the trash to the container behind the garden shed. The big trash bags for the container are at the small cleaning room next to the vacuum cleaner etc. Bring the trash container to the communal trash container at the asphalt road when full. ALWAYS KEEP THE TRASH CONTAINER TIGHTLY CLOSED. OTHERWISE YOU WILL ATTRACT RATS.
The propane gas bottle is below the kitchen sink. If you need to change it, you can either swap it with a similar gas bottle in the bathroom below the bath sink or swap it at “Vialpa” shop in Puntagorda for a new one (about 10-15€).
Cleaning room
Between the two baths there is a small room where you will find the vaccum cleaner, additional toilet paper, brooms, ant spray etc.
Main bathroom
The main bathroom with Moroccan hand made tiles has a solar heated shower. The water is automatically regulated to 40 °C. In winter, or during long overcast days, the gas heater will jump in to provide a backup. The gas bottle is behind the wood blinds under the sink. If you remove the blinds, make sure you put it back behind the 4 glass pearls which lock it.
Toilets/WC
On La Palma there is no public sewage system. The toilets are connected to a private “pozo negro” in which the water from the toilet enters the volcanic underground without treatment. DO NOT THROW ANY OBJECTS INTO THE TOILET. Only the toilet paper is allowed.
Washing mashine and tumble dryer
For cotton, use the ALGODON program. For sportswear, use the SINTETICOS program. Place the soap powder into the II drawer or put a washing tab inside the drum.
For using the energy efficient heat pump dryer, use the program ALGODON in dry intensity ++ for cotton, and for sportswear use SINTETICOS in +++ intensity and extra low temperature (goose feather symbol).
Always clean all filters in the door after use.
Pool
The pool pump starts and stops automatically. You can use the blue smart control in the house to manually start or stop them.
The pool is solar heated to 35 °C in summer and 25 °C in winter on sunny days. There is a security valve which prevents the pool from heating above 35 °C.
Enter the pool slowly. Maximum 4 persons allowed! Do not enter with dirty feet. Do not use sun cream! Beware of the sun around noon (11 to 16h in summer, 12 to 14h in winter). Danger of sun burns without a protective hat!
Garden illumination
The garden is romantically illuminated in the evening shortly before sunset. Use the switches next to the main door in the corridor, or pool terrase door in the living room, or at the outside of the garden shed, to manually switch the lights on or off.
Animals
The villa is surrounded by plain nature and we share our space with animals:
- Geckos: These nice and friendly reptiles clean the house from flies, moths and spiders. In the eveing they make gurgling or blurping sounds.
- Lizards: They never enter the house, but sometimes they steal your wine grape or cheese treats, or they bite you with some sweet love in your toes
- Fish: All water bodies in the garden are filled with fish. They keep the mosquitos in check
- Mosquitos and flies: They try their best to enter the house. Never, ever, remove the anti insect window blinds and never, ever, leave the doors open!
- Bees: In summer, on very hot days, they visit the pond and the fountains for drinking water or taking water home for cooling their hives
- Dogs: If you have a dog, please leave the front gate closed. The property is fully fenced. There are sadly lots of stray dogs in Spain, and La Palma is no exception
- Ants: On warm summer days ants will enter the house. Use anti ant insect spray swiftly so they do not build their highway
- Bicho negro: The portuguese thousend foot is a black worm like creature. He leaves the soil after heavy rain falls and takes tens of thousands of his friends with him, climbing the walls. He is harmless but smells bad
Rain and moisture
You do not believe it, but sometimes it can rain violently. When the rain comes from the south it can enter the doors. Just remove the spilled water with a towel.
During the nights the air moisture is very high, even in summer. Please remove therefore all garden furniture coverings and place them under the terrace roof where the textile does not get wet soaked
